Safe Haven
From 2020, Usikimye runs 3 Safe Houses
Established in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when safe shelter options for those fleeing violence were critically scarce, Usikimye's Safe Haven emerged as a beacon of hope. What began as a rapid mobilization of resources, with friends and online supporters rallying to address the urgent need, quickly evolved. The initial realization that housing survivors within personal residences was unsustainable underscored the critical necessity for a dedicated safe space. This collective effort and the unwavering support of our community led to the establishment of our first Safe Haven.
Today, Usikimye proudly operates two Safe Houses and one Emergency Shelter, providing refuge and comprehensive support to women, children, and gender minorities escaping gender-based violence. Our Safe Havens offer a sanctuary where survivors can find immediate safety, healing, and a pathway towards a more secure future.
